Tomorrow: prosthetic limb developer Hugh Herr. His Biomechatronics research group at the MIT Media Lab has developed the first powered ankle-foot prosthesis. Herr lost both of his legs in a climbing accident in the early 1980s and has since devoted his career to building better prosthetic devices that can mimic actual biological limbs.
