My dad loves to give strange and clever gifts. For my 21st birthday he really outdid himself. As an architecture enthusiast my dad thoughtfully gifted me a 3 foot tall marionette of an [elderly] Frank Lloyd Wright, complete with a coat draped on his shoulders and a cane.
I was stunned, as you can imagine. In college “Frank,” as he came to be called, became the centerpiece of a game where my friends and I would try to scare each other, hiding him in closets, bags, and hanging in odd places.
The artist who made Frank makes marionettes of famous Wisconsinites. Do you know who else is a famous Wisconsinite? Liberace (above). If you’re wondering how to tell that special someone, “I love you” or “I’m watching you in your sleep,” here you go.
Today we revisit the interview with the director of Behind the Candelabra, Steven Soderbergh. He talks about the man who practically invented bling: Liberace.
