1. Today, April 19, marks the 70th anniversary of the beginning of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising. To mark it, above is audio of Eva Hoffman reading "A Poor Christian Looks At The Ghetto" by the late Polish poet Czeslaw Milosz at the PEN American Center in 2005. In addition to reading the poem, she talks a bit about Milosz, the uprising, and the “extraordinary act of moral and historical imagination [the poem] represents.” The audio isn’t great, but Hoffman’s reflections are worth hearing and you can read the text of the poem here.
