About two-thirds of bachelor’s degree recipients borrow money to attend college, and collectively, student debt has topped $1 trillion.
Today’s show is about what’s driving college costs higher.

It makes not having a job right after college extremely stressful and my sister had to choose between the school she wanted and one that was a cheaper in-state option because of how expensive my education was. Thankfully she’s been able to transfer this year.

CUNY BA, bad advice from Dad had me take out over 30K in loans to live in NYC. I make 2K/month now, rent: 800. Payment starts next month.

I really want to get my PhD, but that means more schooling and more debt. I’m coming to terms with having debt the rest of my life.

I can’t afford to pay for a Master’s program, and I can’t afford to borrow any more money, so my Bachelor’s will have to suffice for now.

I lived with my parents for 2 years after graduating to pay off my undergrad debt, and just borrowed more for grad school!

I chose to go to a university that I was offered a scholarship because I could graduate debt-free (granted I also had to work simultaneously)

I’m going to Temple U instead of Simmons College (my first choice) because Temple is 10 thou a year to Simmons’ 50. I’m still in debt.

Luckily, finances haven’t been a BIG problem, and I will be attending MIT in the fall. However, it was important in my decision.

I chose a public university that I could pay for entirely with scholarships. Now I’ve graduated, and was able to take whatever job I wanted!

My student loan payments were so ridiculous that I had to move back home with my disabled parents to a small town with no opportunities other than minimum wage retail work. The depression has been the worst part, though. Makes it impossible to dream.
